"Sore Cheeks!"
The Apostle Mark so colorfully portrays the prideful arrogance and mocking humility of the soldiers who tortured Jesus.
Speaking with such biting words, "Prophesy King, tell us, who slapped you?", depict not only the evident lack of knowledge of Jesus and HIS TRUE majesty, but also a complete lack of respect for another human being's emotions.
This is also a picture, and must be a reminder for everyone today, that every believer must recognize and acknowledge one very crucial fact.
Self proclaimed authority, like that of the soldiers, where speaking whatever comes to mind, quite often leaves in it's wake, both the reality that your own prophecies have been nullified by your selfish and prideful actions, and also the impending and forthcoming judgement which is clearly defined by God's Law of Sowing and Reaping.
Many who look for opportunity in which to cast off their own damaged emotions, most often do so with cruel and biting words, and are actually duplicating the cruelty and humiliation much like that which Christ suffered at the hands of HIS spitefully arrogant persecutors.
Sarcasm, hawdiness and vain glory have no place in the lives of Believers in Christ, much less of a model of submission and true humility, but should rather invoke a reaction of sincere compassion and a deep love for others who have suffered sore cheeks and a bruised head.
